The lighthouse served seafarers around Garðskagi Point for almost 50 years, when the new lighthouse was built. It most likely saved many vessels as the area is probably the most hazardous coastal waters around Iceland.
At the time it was built there weren't many concrete buildings in Iceland and now it is the second oldest concrete building in the land.
It is a great place to be on those beautiful summer evenings when the sunset in Garðskagi attract many visitors.
